LPA is honored to welcome Dr. Jana Martin, a nationally recognized leader in psychology advocacy, professional affairs, and ethical practice. With extensive experience advancing the profession and supporting psychologists through professional and legislative challenges, Dr. Martin brings a wealth of expertise and a national perspective to this year’s workshop. She will lead the first half of the day, presenting Protecting Psychologists, the Profession, and the Public: Ethical Advocacy and New Efforts.
The second half of the day will be led by Drs. Koren Boggs, Jesse Lambert, and Lacey Ellis, focusing on professional advocacy, legislative engagement, and strategies for communicating with key stakeholders.
Breakfast, lunch, and bottled water are included with your registration. The entire workshop, including the keynote and afternoon sessions, will also be available in real time through Zoom, with an interactive component for virtual attendees.

As doctorally trained psychologists assess the impact of stagnant and decreasing reimbursement rates, implicit and explicit needs for additional training to ensure ethical and informed treatments, and education as technology and life stressors become more complex and as resources dwindle, and as threats to their professional identity and livelihood emerge from both inside and outside of their own profession, they are in need of multilevel support. The roles which self- and professional advocacy play in their own and others’ protection and thriving are critical to successful change. Creation and identification of resources are essential. The first presentation aims to provide attendees with known and new resources and strategies to advocate for doctoral level practice, training, and protection of the public. The second half of the day will focus on professional advocacy, beginning with the tangible impacts of membership engagement and advocacy efforts over the last year. It will then move into developing strategies for networking and communicating with stakeholders—including legislators, administrators, other professions, and community leaders—in various advocacy roles. Finally, we will discuss how to implement these strategies to advance LPA’s upcoming legislative and organizational goals.

Protecting Psychologists, the Profession, and the Public: Ethical Advocacy and New Efforts
Dr. Martin’s LPA presentation aims to provide attendees with known and new resources and strategies to advocate for doctoral level practice, training, and protection of the public.
Objectives: At the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:
-Identify 3 major ways to advocate for psychologists, the profession and the public.
-Name at least two core components of ethical advocacy.
-List ways in which clinician self-care benefits clients, patients and clinicians.
-Discuss how to access and use available resources to enhance service delivery to the public.
Jana N. Martin, Ph.D.
Dr. Jana N. Martin, an experienced licensed psychologist and business leader, has worked in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, independent practice, universities/private educational institutions, and non-profit/for-profit businesses. Her roles have included serving as Chief Psychologist, Professor, Keynote Speaker, Author, President, Director, Board member, Board Chair, Volunteer, Practice Advocate, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Martin has successfully created, developed, and grown many programs, partnerships, and businesses. She recently retired as CEO of The American Insurance Trust and now serves as a Senior Executive Consultant for businesses and associations in areas of leadership, board, and business/professional development.

Drs. Koren Boggs, Jesse Lambert, and Lacey Ellis’s LPA presentation will focus on professional advocacy, highlighting the impact of member engagement, strategies for communicating with key stakeholders, and ways to advance LPA’s legislative and organizational goals.
Objectives: At the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:
–Identify two legislative goals met by LPA in 2026 that were influenced by membership advocacy efforts.
-Describe the lifecycle of a bill in Louisiana and advocacy opportunities at each stage.
-Learn and have opportunities to practice strategies for communicating with a variety of stakeholders in an advocacy role.
Koren Boggs, Ph.D.
Dr. Koren Boggs is a clinical psychologist specializing in diagnostic evaluations and care for children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism, global developmental delay, intellectual disability, and ADHD. She has served as program director and team leader at two children’s hospital autism centers and brings expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), family collaboration, and multidisciplinary care. Dr. Boggs completed a five-year term on the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, serving as Chair from 2019 to 2020. She has contributed to interagency initiatives focused on autism best practices, access to care, and professional standards, and currently serves as President of the Louisiana Psychological Association.
Jesse Lambert, Psy.D., MP
Dr. Jesse Lambert is a Licensed Clinical and Medical Psychologist specializing in criminal forensic evaluations and expert testimony. He previously spent nearly eight years with Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group, providing comprehensive psychological services across inpatient and outpatient settings and leading rural mental and behavioral health outreach. Dr. Lambert is a founding faculty member of the Our Lady of the Lake Psychology Internship and has held numerous leadership roles in organized psychology, including Chair of the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and President of the Louisiana Psychological Association. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychology.
Lacey Ellis, Ph.D.
Dr. Lacey Ellis is a licensed psychologist specializing in child psychology, with extensive experience in clinical care, multidisciplinary team leadership, and program development across healthcare, private practice, and educational settings. She is a past president of the Louisiana Psychological Association and currently serves as a Federal Advocacy Coordinator for the American Psychological Association and Chair of the Psychology Section for the Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Ellis is the founder of Live Oak Children’s Center and the Pediatric Provider Collective, a statewide professional network supporting pediatric providers and strengthening access to quality care for children and families.
