About LPA

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Louisiana Psychological Association, the state affiliate of the American Psychological Association. We hope you’ll browse our site and allow us to share with you the many exciting activities that we offer our members and the public, as we work to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting health, education, and human welfare.

This is an ambitious goal but one we embrace with the belief that those who create and apply the science of psychology are in a position to have a significant, positive impact for our community and its people. Because of our scientific perspective, psychologists are unique. We are both a science and a profession. We use the tools and methods of science, resting on a body of knowledge and theory, to ask questions and find valid answers in real world human problems. We believe that psychology must have a meaningful influence, if our communities are to truly thrive.

On this website you will be able to meet the current Executive Council members and contact any of these psychologists with your questions or suggestions. Take a moment to scan our news and up-coming events. You will also be able to review our training events.

Colleagues and guests can search for a Psychologist in our member directory, by special name, zip code, or specialty.

We also offer our Speakers’ Bureau for those looking for a presenter in an area of psychology for either public or professional topics.

In our section for members we help psychologists, associate members and students connect with others in their areas, such as private practice, neuropsychology, school psychology, psychotherapy methods, community and psychology in the public interest, industrial-organization and consulting psychology, early career psychologists, and many others.

We also represent the interests of psychology and psychologists in the legislature and with government agencies. Interested members are encouraged to join with us in the committees for legislative and public affairs.

I hope this site helps answer some of your questions about our association. The Executive Council members and I are here to help answer additional questions and so please feel free to contact us.

Once again, welcome to the state association for the advancement of psychology––the Louisiana Psychological Association.
